CORONAVIRUS: UPDATE ON THE 2020 EUROPEAN LPG CONGRESS
March 17, 2020
The annual European LPG Congress was scheduled to take place on May 27-28 in Barcelona, Spain. The Management Committee of Liquid Gas Europe has decided to postpone this 2020 edition until 2021 due to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). This decision has not been taken lightly and the two following main concerns have been taken into account.
Firstly, the WHO has qualified the situation as pandemic. Many countries in Europe have now announced the activation of the third phase of their response plan and taken heavy emergency measures to contain the spread of the virus. The Spanish government (as well as France, Italy and a number of other countries) has proceeded to a total confinement for its population for the next 15 days. This period may be extended if necessary.
Secondly, one of the primary concerns was the responsibility and concern towards exhibitors, sponsors and participants who make the European Congress successful year after year. As of today, we cannot guarantee one of the main commitments we have towards participants – to deliver a large event with high quality, wide attendance and high-level speakers for the conference and exhibition.
Both of these factors led to the decision to postpone the Congress until 2021. The new date for next year’s event is not yet confirmed and we will update you as soon as we have more information.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused, but assume you appreciate that the safety of our sponsors, exhibitors, members and participants is paramount.
